Biografía de De La Soul

El trío formado por: Posdnous, Trugoy the Dove y P.A. Pasemaster Mase, formó De La Soul mientras aún se encontraban en el instituto de su ciudad natal, Nueva York.
Su primera demo cayó en manos del productor Prince Paul, que les consiguió un trato con el sello Tommy Boy Records y produjo su primer álbum Three Feet High & Rising(1989).
Su optimismo y buen humor en las letras y su estilo musical relajado ofrecía a finales de los ochenta una contrapartida al tan manido estilo gansta rap de la época.

En un intento por sacar provecho comercial de este hecho, Tommy Boy les aplicó la etiqueta de los hippies del hip hop, para horror de sus componentes.
A pesar de que el disco funcionó más que bien comercialmente, el grupo se resintió de la etiqueta aplicada y en su siguiente álbum, De La Soul is Dead, los temas se volvieron más ácidos, girando en torno a la industria discográfica y los manejos de abogados y demás burocracias.
Su tercer intento en el mercado, Buhloone Mindstate, les colocó de nuevo, junto a otros colectivos como A Tribe Called Quest, en la mira del hip hop menos tradicional.
Tres años tardaron en sacar su siguiente trabajo, Stakes is High (1996) al que siguió en 2000 Art Oficial Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, Art Official Intelligence: Bionix – Better, Faster, Stronger! (2001) y The Grind Date (2004) .
